The nominations are finally in for the 98th Academy Awards as they were announced on Thursday, Jan 26, hosted by Lewis Pullman and Danielle Brooks.
As the Oscars slowly roll in, the Oscar nominee for Best Picture includes “Bugonia,” “F1,” “Frankenstein,” “Hamnet,” “Marty Supreme,” “One Battle after Another,” “The Secret Agent,” “Sentimental Value,” “Sinners,” and “Train Dreams.”
Many of the movies that are nominated have had extraordinary cultural impact, with “Marty Supreme” being one of the most interesting roll outs of 2025 due to its use of social media, even leading Timothee Chalamet to make a song remix with popular UK rapper “EsDeekid” to promote the movie, which had people pleasantly surprised.
Senior Lee Lopez at Rancho Cucamonga High School has also shared that Marty Supreme should win the Oscar solely based on how cool the marketing was.
“To be honest, I thought the movie was ok, but the marketing was crazy. I never expected for Timothee Chalamet to drop a whole song for the movie, they have to win at least something for that,” Lopez said.
Other students on campus want Sinners to win for best picture. People claim that the message of the movie was very layered and felt different from any other movie they have ever seen.
Senior Peyton Machado talks about how he saw this movie and why he believes it should win Best Picture.
“At first, when I watched the movie, I thought it was going to be a horror movie and then I realized that it was way deeper and that the fact that it was told through the lens of a vampire movie was really cool,” Machado said.
Sinners also has also achieved 16 Oscar nominations and has broken the record for most Oscar nominations in Academy history, according to The New York Times.
Of course, all of these movies nominated are deserving of this category, but “Sinners” and “Marty Supreme” have been movies that have captivated audiences throughout the year and have strong chances to win Best Picture.
There will also be strong competition among the actors in the films nominated, according to one again, The New York TImes.
Other students have also shown appreciation for the movies that have not been as popular as the movies mentioned earlier.
With all of these movies deserving of their nominations, some have stood out more than others. In order to see, tune in for the Oscars on Sunday, Mar. 15.
