Mariah Buckles, a 28-year-old performer known by her stage name, Mariah the Scientist, was born in Atlanta, Georgia.
According to Genius, she started her musical debut in 2018, and as stated in AAE Speakers, she had always been interested in science. Buckles went to St. John’s University with a biology scholarship, hence she coined the name “The Scientist.”
Her music, according to Buckles, is about her feelings and exploring her emotions. Senior Khloe Wales listens to Mariah the Scientist, and she shared her thoughts about her music.
“I would rate it an 8.5, I really like her storytelling and her songwriting, but I do feel like the vocals do need a little bit of work,” Wales said. “But it’s enjoyable to listen to, and she’s really good at capturing those emotions that she may be feeling in this moment, and I do like that she tends to pull from experience.”
Buckles’ first debut was “To Die For” in 2018. She had also loved singing, but didn’t start professionally until 2018. She collaborated with many artists, including Lil Baby and Young Thug, and later on went to date him.
Buckles started with a biology major to becoming a artist that many love, and even went to perform at one of the most popular events, Coachella.
“I like Mariah the Scientist because I really like the silky flare that she brings to her music and she’s not like the other artists. She sounds very original, and yeah, she just makes music for the girls,” junior Lyric Kelly said.
According to AAE Speakers, Outkast and Frank Ocean are her musical inspirations, especially when she posts content, but when she performs on stage, she takes a lot of inspiration from artists like Mariah Carey.
Buckles has gained a lot of encouraging and supportive fans along her musical career. She held a concert in Los Angeles, California, and took the time to enjoy her fans’ presence and do the job she loves.
