After nearly a decade of fighting monsters and battling to save the world, the cast of “Stranger Things” has returned for the release of the fifth and final season. “Stranger Things” season five, volume one, premiered on Wednesday, Nov. 26. on Netflix.
The premiere of season five, volume one, included four episodes. The second volume is set to release at Christmas, and the final volume will be released on New Year’s Eve; each will be released at 5 p.m. PST.
According to Tudum, a companion website to Netflix, season five follows the main characters of the series as they try to navigate through Military Quarantine Hawkins to defeat Vecna, the series’ main antagonist.
“Stranger Things,” according to Variety, premiered with 59.6 million views on its first day on Netflix, successfully becoming one of Netflix’s best premieres the streaming service has ever had.
“Stranger Things” also received praise from critics, receiving a score of 90% on Rotten Tomatoes.
Season five is setting up to be one of the biggest creative leaps for “Stranger Things” yet, as ScreenRant reported that the series will experience an 18-month time jump, putting the main characters the same age as the actors playing them.
As excitement for the rest of the series builds around the holidays, students on campus shared their thoughts on the hit series and how it will conclude.
Some students have also shared their opinions on how the new editions, like Nell Fisher, playing Holly Wheeler, and Linda Hamilton playing Dr. Kay, will play into the plot of season five.
Some students, like senior Jacob Ortiz, expressed their opinions on this matter.
“I am low-key excited for the new season, but confused about how the characters relate to the plot. I just hope they don’t mess up the ending by adding these new people,” said senior Jacob Ortiz.
Other students have also said that they are not interested in what “Stranger Things” has to offer anymore and feel like the series had a good run, but now it’s time to end it.
“‘Stranger Things’ is alright, but what really made it good was the first three seasons. It really pulled us in and really made us bond with the storyline, but the last two seasons seem to be cringy and not as entertaining,” said senior Hadi Yezhnikovsky.
As the series prepares to release more episodes for its final season, students remain with different opinions, but if “Stranger Things” remains on the same trajectory, the show could go down as one of the greatest television shows of all time.
