On Tuesday, Oct. 21, the Rancho Cucamonga High School choir participated in the District Choir Festival, where choral groups from district schools came together to perform in front of one another, showcasing their skills.

A place where harmonies come together and conjoin as one, the RCHS choir watched other schools perform songs at Los Osos High School. RCHS performed songs like “I Want You Back” by the Jackson Five, with an adjudicator judging their work and giving feedback on every song.

“I really enjoyed seeing all the other schools perform,” junior Grace Jourieh said.

Jourieh is the vice president of the Cugar Chorus RCHS. She described the time she had and said she enjoyed seeing the adjudicator work with the different choirs. One of her favorite parts was incorporating dance into her choir’s performance.

RCHS choir performed first and used their choreography from their latest concert, “The Music of Motown,” on stage. After they watched the other choirs perform, with a break in between, all the choirs were able to see old friends from different schools and also meet new people.

“My favorite part was obviously watching the adjudication because I thought that was really cool, and then some of the pieces that were chosen were really cool,” senior Maia Gierczak said.

Gierczak, the president of the choir department, said she enjoyed seeing her friends from other schools and meeting new people. She loved all of the pieces performed by all the other schools.

Dr. Joel Wilson, the director of the choir community, said he is proud of his students for doing so well at the event.

“At Rancho, we have a diverse program, so we do traditional choir music, but we also do pop music, and so it’s just a lot of fun,” Wilson said.

Future choir participants are encouraged to join the choir at RCHS and sing beautiful harmonies with their peers, have field trips, and performances to show their proud friends and family.
