The varsity girls tennis team celebrates its win of the tournament.

The Rancho Cucamonga High School girls varsity tennis team placed first at the Etiwanda Fall Classic Tournament, and the team is currently undefeated.

Their first game was on Wednesday, Aug. 23, against Alta Loma High School, and it was a close match with a score of 7-5.

Senior Evelyn Hou said, “When we have tougher matches, it is critical and essential that we stick together as a team and fight until the end.”

Their second game was against Serrano High School on Thursday, Aug. 24, and this match was a nail-biter. RCHS was down for the first half of the set, but fought their way back up and won with a score of 8-4.

The third game was against Chino High School on Friday, Aug. 25, and RCHS crushed the Chino Cowboys with a score of 12-0. Finishing strong, RCHS defeated St. Lucy’s 10-2 on Saturday, Aug. 26.

One of the team captains, senior Sophia Paradowski, said, “As a lot of the seniors have graduated and left the varsity team. We do have quite a lot of rebuilding and reworking to do, but we also have a lot of new incoming talent that I think is going to be great for our team now and in the future.”

Paradowski also said she’s looking forward to this season and seeing how we improve.

“I think we’re going to have a great season and I believe we all work cohesively as a team together so I think that’s gonna be our biggest strength,” Paradowski said. “I’m really looking forward to getting out there with the team and getting better and better each time and seeing how our team grows throughout the season and I really hope we make it to CIF again this year.”
