As the spring sports season comes to a close, the boys varsity volleyball team at Rancho Cucamonga High School has worked to climb the ranks in the district league.
In this current volleyball season, the boys’ varsity volleyball team at RCHS is ranked 6th out of 8th in the district league.
In their most recent game, against Chino Hills, the boys volleyball team played well but unfortunately lost by one point. As of right now, the boys volleyball team record is 11-16.
Over the last volleyball season, the team has shown steady improvement through increased focus on teamwork, betterment of their communication, and overall performance, with players and coaches pointing to a stronger sense of unity and consistency on the court as key factors in their progress.
Senior Ayden Gaona shared his enjoyment of volleyball and his volleyball career as a whole, starting from his sophomore year and continuing to his current senior year.
“My favorite part about playing volleyball is the team aspect behind it,” Gaona said. “When the teams are doing well, we’re riding a high, and even when we are doing bad, as long as we stick together, we’re able to get out of that hole.”
Furthermore, a member of the junior varsity team, Brady Rowley, said his biggest support system is his friends, who had introduced him to volleyball.
“My friends were the ones who got me into volleyball; they constantly told me about their club, and one day I decided that I wanted to join,” Rowley said.
“My biggest support system is probably my friends, because they always encourage me to get better, keep going, and keep improving.”
There are three games left in the season, and as it closes, both varsity and junior varsity players remain focused on growth and overcoming hardships in the sport.
