The Rancho Cucamonga High School tennis team continues to demonstrate teamwork, hard work and determination as the season progresses. Through intense practices and competitive matches, players say the experience has helped them grow both as athletes and individuals. No matter their opponent, no matter their match format the RCHS players kept it up.
Players say that their passion for tennis started years ago unexpectedly, but playing for the RCHS tennis team has brought the sport to a new level. The team practices regularly to sharpen their skills, focusing on serving, footwork, and strategy in order to perform well during matches. With both Varsity and Junior Varsity serving Alta Loma High School two losses, with Varsity and JV scoring 12-6, and 13-5, respectively.
“Even though it is kind of an individual sport, at the end of the day, it’s a team sport at Rancho…”, said varsity tennis player Jarret Soriano.
Varsity player Soriano highlights the teamwork of the RCHS tennis team as an upside to one the biggest challenges they have to face. Despite trying to figure out who works well together, and who plays their best at singles or doubles, the RCHS players have managed to adapt despite who they’re working with because though the rackets might be different, the hands that hold them belong to the same family.
The RCHS tennis team is already filled with champions who bring victories home, but the 2025-2026 team makes its own statement because the new players have changed the dynamic of things, there is a lot more experience, and diversity.
“It has taught me to stay calm in rough situations, even if i’m down, i still have to look past and keep fighting,” said varsity tennis player Isaac Gonzalez
Gonzalez shares with us the mental impact that tennis has had on him. Highlighting how despite his competitiveness he has been taught to clear his mind, take deep breaths, and just focus.
The RCHS varsity tennis players let us know that although this season came with challenges their chemistry, patience, and strength will have helped them win games and make it far. Senior varsity tennis player Anmol Bansal, who appreciates the technique and strategy of the sport and says that being a part of the RCHS tennis team means everything to him, and as someone who has been playing since freshman year he encourages people to join simply saying it does not hurt to try.
