On Monday, Feb. 20, 2023, while students and staff were busy at home enjoying their day off, the groundbreaking varsity boys volleyball team took on Rialto High School’s Knights in their first match of the season, hosted at RCHS.

The team has worked very hard to prepare at practices and on their own. We will be competing against teams that have years of experience, but we have talent so I think the team has done all they can to head into the season ready!” head varsity boys volleyball coach Ms. Jodi Postlmyr said.

The Cougars swept Rialto throughout the entire game, with the final overall score being 3-0. The game started off in Rancho’s favor, with them leading the first set by 22 points and a first set score of 25-3.

“I think we played really well [but] as a team I think we could work on communication a little bit more and also [our] adaptability and game,” varsity starter senior Adam Quach said.

The team suffered its first loss on Thursday, Feb. 23, at their first away game against Fontana High School, with the final box score being 1-3.

The JV team, which originally wasn’t planned on being formed, also had their first game against Fontana High School, ultimately losing 0-1 to FHS. Despite the loss, it’s still groundbreaking that they were able to form both a varsity and JV team, especially because this wasn’t originally planned.

At first, we were only approved to start one team, and the district changed their minds to help create full programs at the schools starting up. We are very happy for this,” Postlmyr said.
