Girls cross country dominates So. Cal.
The boys and girls cross country teams competed in the Inland Empire Challenge on Saturday, Oct. 15 at Guasti Regional Park in Ontario. Varsity girls came in the first place and junior varsity girls placed second.
Rancho hosted and set up this race for any other schools participating.
“Currently, our girls are ranked first in division one and our boys are ranked tenth in division one as well,” Bill Burke, RCHS athletic director, said.
The girls cross country team is having a really good season this year. According to their coach, Lizzette Carrell, the team is also in second place in the State for division one.
“The girls placed second in the Nike Portland Cross Country Championship race against nationally ranked teams,” Carrell said. “They are motivated and work hard every day, and it’s showing.”
On Nov. 1, the cross country teams will compete in league finals at Central Park. Then later in the month, on Nov. 12, the teams are scheduled to compete in CIF Prelims at Mt. San Antonio College, also known as Mt. SAC.
The CIF final is scheduled for Nov. 19.
“I think anybody can do cross country if they are truly driven to get better,” freshman and varsity cross country runner Braelyn Combe said.
