Girls volleyball starts out strong

The girls volleyball team is currently 5-3 after a recent 3-1 win against Claremont on Wednesday, Sept. 8.

The team is led by Coaches Ms. Jodi Costamyer and Synthia Giron and team captains seniors Victoria Sears and Savannah Styles.

The team started out its season on Saturday, Aug. 14 losing 2-3 against La Salle in a tournament. However, the Cougars defeated Ontario Christian 3-1 on Tuesday, Aug. 24 in their first home match of the season.

“We’re very competitive and work hard to win games,” said Sears.

“We practice four days a week for two hours,” said junior Kalea Montgomery.

So far they played three non-conference games against Santiago, Rancho Christian, and Alta Loma, defeating both Rancho Christian and Alta Loma.

Montgomery and Sears said the team had strongpoints in their last scrimmage. Montgomery and Sears said, “Being aggressive and executing when hitting” led to the wins.

In the scrimmage against Rancho Christian, they won all three sets (3-0).

Their next game is Tuesday, Sept. 14 at Los Osos high school.
