As April begins, one of the first things juniors did this month was take the CAASPP. This year, CAASPP tests were scheduled for the week of April 6-9. Each year, juniors participate in the state test in English and math. This year, juniors also took the science test. Seniors took the science test as well.
The math CAASPP covered geometry, algebra, statistics, and trigonometry, which are all subjects students typically learn through Integrated Math 1, 2, and 3. Similarly, the CAST, which is the science test, included all types of science, including life, physical, and earth and space.
For juniors, preparations for state testing started long before April.
Most teachers practiced CAASPP tests and extra practices in the weeks before the test. This, along with self-studying, helped students feel more confident and ready for it.
“I prepared by paying attention in my classes and reviewing and taking notes,” junior Aidan Hou said. “I feel good and confident about my expertise.”
As the week progressed, some juniors found the tests easier than they imagined, while others found them more challenging.
“For math, it was kinda hard because I was bad at math. English wasn’t too bad. It was really tedious,” junior Lingling Zeng said.
As of Friday, April 10, most juniors are done with the state testing.
