On Jan 27, 2026, a day of great remembrance occurred. International Holocaust Remembrance Day is a day to remember those who lost their lives in the Holocaust.
“[Remembering the Holocaust is] important because it’s part of our history that it shaped the global conflict at that time, shaped the way we think today,” said junior Beckam Amare.
The Holocaust happened from 1933 to 1945. In 1933, Adolf Hitler was elected chancellor of Germany, and the plan to start the Holocaust was in progress.
According to the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum, the Nazis targeted Jews in the Holocaust. More than six million Jews were killed, and millions more who weren’t, like Black people, disabled people, and even Jehovah’s Witnesses.
“Hate speech and inaction can lead to genocide,” Mr. Sankey said. “I mean, [it was] so extreme that some people don’t even think it’s real. Yes, they’re Holocaust deniers,” Sankey said.
According to History.com, “Antisemitism, sometimes called history’s oldest hatred, is hostility or prejudice against Jewish people.”
From the horrors of the Holocaust, people can learn that the atrocities of the horrid event can never happen again.
