Rancho Cucamonga High School hosted its annual Prom Rally on Friday, April 17. Taking place in the gym, which was decorated with Paris-themed artwork featuring posters of famous paintings, including “Starry Night” and “The Girl With The Pearl Earring,” along with so many more classic works of art .
The rally started with Mr. Aaron Bishop and Principal Azande Aikens rolling into the gym, performing a skit that they were on a mission to find the prom queen and king crown after it was stolen by this year’s prom court nominees. Senior Scarlet Shampine sang The National Anthem. After the introduction, students watched the court nominee video, which was made by the RCHS TV Bulletin.
Kendall Pera and Nathaniel Pak, the honorary prom king and queen representing the adaptive PE program, performed a dance. Afterward, the prom court nominees danced together.
This year’s prom court nominees included Peter Son, representing RCHS TV Bulletin and Yuna Kanamoto, representing Student Achievement; Victoria Hong, representing waterpolo and Mathew Binsol, representing boys Volleyball; Kaleo Koffman, representing Student Achievement and Hallie Fritz, representing ASB; John Atienza, representing ASB and Charlotte Patio, representing Dance; Audrey Lee, representing waterpolo and Trevor Crawford, representing soccer; and Rae’Lyn Addison, representing cheer and Andres Arreola, representing soccer.
“Being on court was such a fun experience for me since I got to spend time with my closest friends creating a court dance and overall made a great bond with the rest of the court,” senior Hallie Fritz said.
Next, Bishop led the spirit clap to get students hyped for the upcoming performance from RCHS Cheer. Cheer performed with stunts and flips, getting “Oohs and aahs” from the crowd.
“Cheer had lots of energy and smiles, and they were very well-synchronized throughout their whole performance,” senior Sonya Wyland said.
After cheer, Bishop and Akiens led students in a finish the lyric game with freshmen and sophomores finishing the song “Baby” by Justin Bieber versus seniors and juniors finishing the lyrics to the song “Love” by Kesha Kole. Seniors finished the game with the song “We are Young” by Fun.
Then the prom court performed one final dance, highlighting each couple. RCHS dance performed right after them.
“Dance had so much energy, and the music was really good,” senior Lindsay Burr said.
The rally finished with Bishop sending students back to class with the song “Don’t Stop Believin’” by Journey.
At prom on Saturday, April 18, Yuna Kanamoto and Peter Son were crowned prom queen and king.
