A look back at prom

RCHS Rooters get students hyped during prom rally.

On Friday, April 17, 2026, the 2026 seniors’ last rally was held in the gymnasium. The gym was decorated with murals and filled with spirit in order to bring the prom theme “A Midnight in Paris,” to life. Prom occurred the day after, on April 18.

Prom, being one of the biggest events in the life of a high school senior, gets its own rally. Dancers performed in front of the school for the last time, the spirit chants and stomps were orchestrated for the last time, and the seniors showed their school spirit for the last time as their graduation only gets closer.

However, this year’s prom came with many difficulties, difficulties that were primarily caused by the last-minute change of the venue. Due to a scheduling conflict, the 2026 prom was changed from the Coto Valley Country Club in Coto de Caza to the water park, Wild Rivers, in Irvine, CA. This affected the class of 2026 deeply with many disappointed seniors choosing to refund their tickets and miss the once of a lifetime event, calling it Anti-Prom by getting dressed, taking pictures, and either going to the beach or just having a nice dinner. 

Even with this setback, the students of RCHS were able to make this event a night to be remembered and the staff showed that even with major difficulties they still can create an event that can break expectations. Even though the venue might have changed the meaning of the night stayed the same, the class of 2026 showed it isn’t the venue that makes prom memorable but the people and memories created.

Grace Olaide-Sadiq is spending her second year at RCHS as a senior, and her first in journalism acting as a staff reporter for the school newspaper, The Cat’s Eye. She looks forward to learning photography, and writing for the school newspaper. When she has time to herself, Olaide-Sadiq likes to read novels and write stories of her own.
Adichie Ikeanyi
Adichie Ikeanyi, Staff Reporter
Adichie Ikeanyi is a senior at Rancho Cucamonga High School, and this is his first year in journalism. He is a staff reporter for the school’s newspaper, The Cat’s Eye. Something about Adichie is that he has been a part of Academic Decathlon for three years, and has been in a leadership position in Jesus Club for two years. Outside of school, Adichie likes to play video games, watch movies, and exercise.

Maddy Armstrong is a senior at Rancho Cucamonga High School, and this is her second year in journalism. She is the photography editor for the school newspaper, The Cat’s Eye. She loves taking pictures of student life and sports, and is the manager for the RCHS girls’ varsity volleyball team. Armstrong enjoys thrifting for fun new clothes and practicing her art in her spare time.
