Rancho Cucamonga High School’s ASB program hosted a blood drive on Friday, Nov. 7, from 8:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. 

Every year, RCHS holds a blood drive. One full blood bag, which is 300 to 320ml, can save up to three people’s lives, according to the World Health Organization. Which was what this blood drive is intended for, saving people’s lives.

Ms. Heather Landau is the director of ASB. ASB plans events around RCHS along with Student Achievement and Link Crew. Events like prom, homecoming, the blood drive, and many more are directed by these committees. Landau said she is proud of her students for doing such an amazing job and thought that this year’s blood drive was a success.

“The reason that we do the blood drive is so that we can help our local communities and our local hospitals because I believe the statistics is that one bag basically saves a life, so the more donations we get, the more lives we can save,” Landau said. “ASB also has a community service component to it where we’re trying to get back to our community, so it also allows us to do that too.”

Despite setbacks that were out of RCHS and ASB’s control, students in ASB said the event was a success.

“Personally, I thought it went really good. We had a lot of setbacks in the morning, but our team and support system really brought it all together at the end of the day, and we had so much support from campus and our students,” senior Kaeli Naea said. 

The blood drive had multiple participants who were able to donate blood. Students were gifted an In-N-Out gift card after they donated as a reward for their service.

“I thought the blood drive went really well. I got to sit down and serve people food after they got their blood taken, so that was pretty fun, and we had a lot of people show up, so that was super cool,’’ sophomore Kyle Cantelletta said.
