In preparation for the National Honor Society annual Benefit Concert, NHS held auditions on Oct. 10-12 from 4:30 p.m. to 6 p.m. The Benefit Concert is an event presented by the RCHS National Honor Society in collaboration with the Red Cross Club in order to raise money for a school program that helps provide supplies to students. 

“Initially we would put on a talent variety show showcasing Rancho’s talent and the money from the ticket sales was donated to Water.org, and we would do a different benefactor each year,” Ms. Kristin Herchenroeder, NHS advisor and AP chemistry teacher, said.

The auditions were held in the choir room, which featured RCHS talent including singing, dancing, and playing an instrument. According to Herchenroeder, this year the Benefit Concert was hoping to showcase more unique talents such as magicians, dancers, and spoken word poetry. 

“We have workdays to promote the Benefit Concert; we make posters and we make decorations for the actual concert. We also have auditions and we try our best to advertise for the event,” senior Juju (Juliana) Farag, ASB president and NHS member said. 

She continued to explain how the concert benefits the school because it gives students at the school an opportunity to show their talents. The people who are putting on the event are NHS students, who are more likely to help and care for their peers, so it’s a good environment to show your talent. 

This year National Honor Society and Red Cross are partnered up with Rancho’s Support Our Students (S.O.S.) organization on RCHS Campus. The money would go towards providing food, holiday gifts, and school supplies to families in the RCHS community. 

“It’s [Benefit Concert] going great. We had a lot of talented people audition, and I am excited to make more memories,” Ananya Prayaga, senior and NHS member, said. She continues to explain that it’s been a really rewarding and fulfilling experience because she get to serve her community. 

The Benefit Concert will be held in the MPR on November 14.
