Osos Defeats Rancho Girls Basketball in League Opener

The varsity girls basketball team was defeated by Los Osos 32-62 on Tuesday, Jan. 4 at their first home league game. 

The Cougars led the Grizzles 11-9 in the first quarter. However, the Grizzlies scored 15 points in the second quarter while the Cougars only scored five.

Senior Aniya Martinez led the team in their 32 point outcome scoring the most points. 

“Going into this game we were very excited and eager to play them and get back on the floor,” said sophomore Yazmeen Corbett. “They are our rival team so I know they were coming out and showing us what they got.”

The lady cougars had some highs lows during their first game. Junior Tanjeet Tahker said, “our team spirit and ability to play hard even when the game got tough.” 

Martinez said the team is, “hoping to improve on our drive, continue to deliver and handle business on the court.” 

In a recent game on Tuesday, Jan. 18, the Lady Cougars defeated St. Lucy’s 59-21.
