As the weather cools down, Rancho Cucamonga High School students begin to rewatch some of their favorite Halloween or fall movies to get into the autumn vibe.
Students were asked about their favorite movies, why they enjoy rewatching these movies, and their favorite part. A lot of movies go with specific seasons. Most movies during the fall are Halloween-themed, but still, people continue to watch them for a sense of nostalgia or just to have a movie when the weather cools down.
RCHS students shared their opinions about the movies they chose during the fall season and why they selected them.
Junior Analez Alvarado shared how one of her favorite fall movies is “The Craft”, which was released in 1996 and directed by Andrew Fleming.
“I picked this movie because of the setting and location. The movie starts off its raining, and I think that just gives off very fall vibes. It usually rains during fall, and I just think that’s very comforting,” Alvarado said.
Alvarado said “The Craft” is a movie she will rewatch. She also shared her favorite scene.
“I will rewatch it again! My favorite part is definitely the end, when Nancy is evil.” Alvarado said.
Other than “The Craft,” Alvarado said she watches other movies during fall, like Tim Burton films for her enjoyment of the thrill and horror genre.
“I think it’s fall-centered, it gives off the witchy kind of vibe, and a lot of people like to get into the witchy kind of stuff around Halloween,” Alvarado said.
In another interview, junior Connor Dillon chose the movie “Hocus Pocus,” as his favorite fall movie. Directed by Kenny Ortega, “Hocus Pocus” was released in 1993.
“I picked this movie because it has very Halloweeny vibes…It’s one of my mom’s favorite movies, so it’s a tradition to watch it every year,” Dillon said.
When asked about his favorite part and if he would rewatch it again, Dillon explained he doesn’t have a specific favorite part, but he likes how the witches interact with modern-day objects and how they have no idea what they are.
“I will rewatch it again this year. I’m gonna watch it in October, and I’m gonna continue to do that forever,” Dillon said.
Later, asked if there were other movies he liked to watch when the weather cools down, Dillon said that he watches horror movies during the fall because of his friends and for the mood of Halloween itself.
Overall, RCHS students seemed to lean more towards Halloween movies during the fall because of the weather cooling down and for the atmosphere coming to life from the movies.
Junior Isabella Salcido shared that she likes to watch the Twilight series during the fall. Directed by Catherine Hardwick, the first movie was released in 2008. More specifically, Salcido chose “Breaking Dawn Part 2,” which was released in 2012, as her preferred film to rewatch.
When asked why Salcido chose this movie, she said she watched it a lot when she was younger, and so she feels a connection with it.
“I rewatch it every year, but it is very fall-esque with the whole theme of the movies,” Salcido said.
As well as rewatching Twilight, Salcido said she loves rewatching other movies during the fall, such as “The Nightmare Before Christmas,” “Donnie Darko,” and other scary movies.
When asked what her favorite parts of the movies were, Salcido said her favorite was most likely the wedding scene and when Bella and Edward go to the island together.
Last but not least, in the final interview, Logan Vanlingen said a movie he likes to rewatch during the fall is “Fantastic Mr. Fox.” Directed by Wes Anderson, it was released in 2009.
Vanlingen said he selected this movie because of the nostalgia. Vanlingen said that his favorite part of “Fantastic Mr. Fox” is near the end when they are in the bookstore, stating he liked how it looked.
In the end, many RCHS students said they prefer to watch movies either released in the fall or that are fall-oriented, wanting to experience movies again to relive the moments and the memories the different characters and settings bring them.
