Halloween is a holiday that is celebrated each year and takes place on October 31. This tradition originated with the ancient Celtic festival of Samhan, which is where people would light bonfires and wear costumes. This day marked the end of summer and the beginning of a dark, cold winter.

People celebrate their Halloween night differently. I asked some students from Rancho Cucamonga High School what their favorite Halloween traditions are, and here is what they had to say.

Sheryl Anand is a Junior at RCHS. She said, “My favorite Halloween tradition would have to be going to haunted houses with my friends. Ever since we were little, we would always do them together, and a lot of us are such scaredy cats, so it made the experience 10x more fun. Watching Halloween movies with my friends is the best part of the night because we always snuggle up together and the presence of each other.”

Junior Lorenzo Daniels said, “It would be me getting dressed up for Halloween and doing a haunted house, and we do this because it is our way of having fun and being a family.”

There are many different activities to do or go to for Halloween. Like going to haunted houses, trick-or-treating, or even going to Halloween parties.

Soraya Harvey, a junior at RCHS, said, “My favorite Halloween tradition is going to my cousin’s house. After we finish trick-or-treating, we dump our candy and make a pile of candies we do not want, called ‘the up for trade pile.’ We then trade those candies and make deals. Some of the best memories and laughs are from doing that with them.”
