The Rancho Cucamonga High School football team defeated Oak Hills High School 14-3 in its first home football game of the season on Friday, Sept. 5.
“I feel great,” senior quarterback Jacob Chambers said. “It’s our first dub, so I’m feeling great that we came out on top.”
Before the start of the first quarter, the players began conditioning, warming up their bodies, and preparing for the game. Once the game started, Chambers threw a 45-yard touchdown to sophomore and wide receiver Semaj Smith, scoring the first six points for the Cougars.
RCHS kicked for a field goal, earning them an extra point, putting them at 7-0 against Oak Hills. Immediately after Oak Hills took possession of the ball, senior Andre Johnson II intercepted the ball and ran it 43 yards for another touchdown. After a successful kick, the Cougars were up 14-0 in the second quarter.
In the third quarter, Oak Hills gained three points with a field goal, bringing the score to 14-3 in Rancho’s favor. During the fourth quarter, senior Carter Sweatt was ejected from the game after a personal foul.
Many of the players were happy about winning the first home game.
“This game feels good,” Johnson II said. “First win at home. Just thank you for the fans, just come out and support us, family, everything, and teams just on an uprise.”
Coach Pierce said he was extremely proud of his team and happy that they pulled through and won.
Rancho has played two teams in its last two away games against Murrieta Valley and Orange Lutheran. Murrieta Valley defeated the Cougars 26-28, and Orange Lutheran defeated the Cougars 24-27. This first home game brought the Cougars their first win of the season, bringing their season record to 1-2.
The Cougars will play their next home game on Friday, Sept. 12, at 7 p.m. against Chaparral High School.
