The Rancho Cucamonga High School girls flag football team kicked off the season versus Norco High School on Monday, Aug. 11, with a big 19-0 win. On Tuesday, Aug. 12, they fought against Citrus Valley High School for their home opener and secured a 9-7 victory. They faced Bishop Amat on Monday, Aug. 18, with their first loss of the season, ending with a score of 6-7. However, they rebounded the next day, Tuesday, Aug 19, with a big 35-0 shutout against Alta Loma.
This is the second year the girls flag football program has been offered at RCHS, and after its successful run last year, the team has high expectations for this season.
Elizabeth Brown, a junior at RCHS and quarterback on the team, expressed her opinions about the team this year.
“I think we’ll be okay. I think that we just need to keep working as a team and keep achieving our personal goals,” Brown said. “Our expectations are set pretty high for this season. I think that we could get 2nd or win league and definitely make it to CIF.”
For the 2024-2025 season, the RCHS flag football team had a national ranking of 452 and a California ranking of 219. The girls have spent weeks training hard to prepare for the 2025-2026 season, and hope to continue climbing up the ranks.
“Baseline League is pretty hard to compete with, but I feel like we could try to get a ring,” defensive back and senior Marley Glass said. “I feel like our team got better from last year when it comes to working together and confidence.”
As of Wednesday, Aug. 20, RCHS girls flag football is ranked number six in the Inland Empire’s top 10 girls flag football teams weekly rankings.
The team has a 4-1 record, and its next game is Monday, Aug. 23, 4:30 p.m. at Chino High School.
