On April 12, 2025, the Rancho Cucamonga High School track and field team set a new school record for the 4×100 relay race at the Arcadia Invitational. Seniors Tahj Crutchfield and Cameron Sermons and juniors John Campbell and Rodney Sermons finished with a time of 40.42 seconds.
Just weeks prior at the Mustang Roundup, the quartet broke the school record with a time of 41 seconds flat. Seeing that these four student athletes worked well together, Coach Bolden decided to keep the team of four together to see what they could accomplish during the season.
“Coach Bolden strives to get us to realize our own potential day in and day out at practice,” Campbell said. “He saw our chemistry and decided to keep us together for the long haul.”
Individually, three of the four runners are currently in the school’s top 10 for their 100-meter races. Rodney Sermons has a 100-meter time of 10.40 seconds, followed by his older brother, Cameron Sermons, with a 100-meter time of 10.48 seconds. Campbell is ranked seventh for the 100-meter dash with a time of 10.85 seconds. While Crutchfield does not run the 100-meter race, he is a consistent 4×100 and 4×200 relay runner, highlighting his impact and importance to the team.
The RCHS girls track and field also made strides this season, setting new personal bests and finishing on the top of the leaderboards consistently. The top three girls’ 100-meter times are 11.95 seconds by junior Jada Lavender, 12.31 seconds by sophomore Khalia Phyfier, and 12.70 seconds by sophomore Ariyah Moore.
On April 22, 2025, the RCHS boys and girls track and field teams won the Baseline League Championship in the Cougar Stadium over long-time rival Etiwanda High School.
“I’ve been running track my whole high school career,” senior Zuri Brooks said. “So it feels really good to end it on a championship win for me and my teammates.”
