RCHS Library celebrates creativity with a black-out poetry competition

Winner of the 2024-2025 black out poetry competition, done by Samantha Medrano.

In April, the librarians continued the yearly blackout art competition from discarded books in the library. Blackout poetry is where a person takes a regular piece of paper and blacks out the words they don’t want, leaving a mostly black paper. The words left create a poem. Artists can then decorate the page to make it more visually interesting. The competition ended on April 28, 2025, with Samantha Medrano’s artwork being chosen as the winner.

Jessica Simpson is a Junior at RCHS. She is staff reporter of the school Newspaper, The Cat’s Eye, with this being her first year in the Cat’s Eye. She hopes to make many interesting articles. When she is not at Journalism she is eating donuts and slacking at the nuclear power plant where she is employed. Other than that she is excited to write new stories for the newspaper.
