If there’s one thing Rancho Cucamonga High School students can agree on, it is that the RCHS Associative Student Body (ASB) knows how to put on a fun rally. RCHS has been praised for their pep rallies for years now and it is no secret that students and staff light up when they hear the words “rally day.” As they are fun to watch, participate in, and talk about, most people don’t truly acknowledge the amount of time and effort ASB puts into making them as fun and energetic as possible. It takes dedication and lots of preparation to create the hour-long rallies that take place a few times a year.
The executive director of campus events, senior Riley Guerrero, has been particularly busy with the preparation of the upcoming prom rally.
“Currently we are working on a script with teachers and special effects people to make the rally as cool as possible,” Guerrero said. She is one of the students who handles creative direction, artwork, scripting, and more for events on campus.
Senior Izaiah Zambrano, who is the director of media, works alongside her. He handles technology for the rally, the music, and marketing. His background with technological experience helps him produce quality sound, light, and more for the rallies.
“Since I was really young I was always on the computer and always wanting to learn more because with technology there are so many countless answers to things and I basically taught myself everything,” Zambrano said.
“I enjoy being able to serve my campus and use my knowledge to make our events fun,” Zambrano said, when asked about his favorite part about his position as media director.
Although putting on a pep rally is fun, the task comes with challenges and requires hard work.
“The most challenging part is talking to everyone that has to participate and coordinating everyone’s schedules,” Guerrero said.
Freshman Emma Sanner shared her views on the tedious aspect of putting together a rally. Sanner is a part of the rally committee for ASB and works to decorate, brainstorm ideas, and make sure the rally runs smoothly.
“I think it can get stressful and a lot of work but it always turns out good,” Sanner said.
ASB is in the beginning stages of rally planning at the moment. The prom rally is on Friday, April 4, the day before prom. Earlier this week, ASB announced and “kidnapped” the nominees for this year’s prom court. The theme is Beauty and the Beast, so RCHS students can look forward to the Disney movie-themed rally with music and performances from staff and students.
“Right now we are working with new companies to enhance our lighting and sound for our rallies,” Zambrano said.
There are many different jobs and tasks that must be completed to bring this rally to life and all of ASB students have their own duties. However, if there is one thing that ASB students can agree on, it is how rewarding the hard work is at the end. RCHS students can always count on ASB to create an energetic, memorable, and entertaining rally to watch.
“My favorite part is just seeing everything come together on rally day and seeing the students enjoy it,” Guerrero said.
