When dealing with grades, it can be a bit of a struggle. It’s especially going to be stressful when the grades are due. Whether students have low grades or just want to improve them, there can be some less stressful ways to handle that.
One way that can improve grades is by talking with teachers. Talking to teachers about what needs to be fixed and what students can work on can really help out in the end. Talking and working things out with teachers can also bring an understanding to why a student is struggling.
Ms. Meghan Doebler, a math teacher at RCHS said, “When students are confused they choose to not talk with their teachers and then their problem never gets fixed.”
Another way to get a handle on grades is simply by not procrastinating. Procrastination is a high school student’s worst enemy. Getting work done now is so much easier than waiting until the last minute to do it. When students procrastinate, it really does affect their grades negatively, and can make the situation more stressful.
Freshman, Sophia Yang said, “Just do the work and don’t say, ‘Oh I’ll just do it later.’”
Writing down work and having a checklist is always helpful, and it is another way that helps students keep their grades up. Just dedicating even five minutes of time to writing down work for each of your classes is a good way to organize that. The checking back later part can be hard, but even if students write themselves a note or just a little reminder on their phone to check back and do things later can help.
Organization is another big thing when it comes to doing any type of work. Organizing work based on classes if students are done or not is a good way to manage things. Even if students feel like their organization skills are good, it’s always good to do a little touch-up on them. Being organized is going to be really helpful in the future, especially for college and future careers.
One of the last things you can do when trying to get grades up is going to tutoring or GOAL Saturday school. Even though going tutoring or GOAL might not be the most convenient way to remediate grades, it really can be beneficial for you. When students go GOAL, it is really good, especially if they are stuck or need help on something. Students can even go if they just need a place to work.
When trying to improve and fix grades, the big thing is to actually dedicate to it and stay consistent.
