The RCHS varsity baseball team officially launched its 2025 season, aiming to build upon the previous year’s performance. The team began its season on Wednesday, Feb. 19, facing Citrus Valley High School in a competitive game that ended with a final score of 6-7, giving the Cougars their first loss of the season.
Reflecting on the 2024 season, the Cougars experienced a series of competitive matchups, concluding the season with a 10-15 record. Notable performances included a 6-3 victory over Upland High School on April 24, 2024, and a 3-1 win against Chino Hills High School on April 10, 2024. Then-junior shortstop and pitcher Brock Foulds led the team with a batting average of .419 and an on-base percentage of .491. At the same time, senior second baseman Derek Almeda contributed a .297 batting average.
Following the season opener, the Cougars demonstrated resilience by securing consecutive victories. On Feb. 21, they defeated Ramona High School 11-0, showcasing strong offensive and defensive plays. Continuing their momentum, the team triumphed over Don Lugo High School on Feb. 25 with a 9-5 victory and Arrowhead Christian High School on Feb. 28 with an 8-0 victory.
The season’s schedule features several notable matchups within the competitive Baseline League, including Upland, Los Osos, Etiwanda, Chino Hills, and Damien High School when Baseline League play starts on Monday, April 7, with their first game against Upland.
One standout player is senior shortstop and right-handed pitcher Brock Foulds. At 5’10” and 155 pounds, Foulds has impressive speed, with a 6.69-second 60-yard dash and a 31.1-inch vertical jump, according to prepbaseballreport.com.
“I’ve been playing baseball for about 12 years, and I get my drive from my parents, both being athletes,” Foulds said. “I have to thank my coaches who helped us prepare by ensuring we work hard and are ready for the season.”
The team engaged in extensive preseason training to prepare for the season, focusing on enhancing fundamental skills, strategic understanding, and team cohesion. The coaching staff has emphasized the importance of discipline and adaptability, aiming to navigate the challenges presented by a demanding schedule.
