Girls water polo clenched the Baseline League Championship for the second time in a row for the 2024-2025 season. To earn the title, the Cougars defeated Los Osos High School on Wednesday, Jan. 29, with a score of 14-6.
It was a tough battle for both teams, but it ultimately led the RCHS girls water polo team to a victory.
Members from the team said they were very happy and it was a well-earned win. After winning the Baseline League title, the girls advanced to the first round of CIF where they were knocked out by Harvard-Westlake High School with a score of 7-12.
The girls had many goals for their season and many of them had said that they were hoping to win the Baseline League. Overall, the team had an undefeated Baseline League season with a record of 8-0.
Junior Audrey Lee said she improved throughout the season, and although it didn’t end in them winning CIF, it was a great season. Her favorite memory was winning Baseline League Championships back-to-back.
“My favorite memory would be back-to-back league champs. We knew we could do it again, and we all played our best,” Lee said.
In the game against Los Osos High School for the winning title, Lee scored the game’s first goal, won the two sprints she did, and had many assists to lead the Cougars to victory.
Junior Bella Fanticone said she was happy she achieved most of her goals this season.
“Most of my goals were accomplished and made me very proud. Although we did not win CIF which was a very big goal of mine,” said Fanticone.
Fanticone said the best game she played was against Chino Hills High School where she scored 12 out of the 17 goals during the game. The Cougars defeated Chino Hills High School 17-1 in their last regular season game on Monday, Jan. 27.
