With winter coming to an end and spring being right around the corner, people are cleaning up their closets and chucking out old stuff. Spring cleaning is a popular trend around the world where people clean out old items from their homes for the new year/season.
Spring cleaning originated from old traditions when people cleaned their homes after the winter. In many cultures like the Iranian New Year, the Nowruz New Year and the Persian New Year, the people needed to clear out the dust and dirt that built up during the winter. The tradition of spring cleaning was to get a clean start for the upcoming seasons of the new year. Over time it became a way to prepare for new seasons and make homes cleaner.
Students at RCHS shared their views on what they thought about the tradition of spring cleaning and if they participated.
“I think spring cleaning is a dumb idea because you should be cleaning all the time not once in a while,” freshman Cash Guerra said. “I think you should deep clean once a week. So in my opinion, I think spring cleaning is unnecessary if you keep everything clean already.”
While some have a negative view on the tradition, others believe spring cleaning is a good way to refresh themselves and their homes.
“I think spring cleaning is a good idea because if you are cleaning up you are going to feel better about yourself and how the space around you feels now that it’s clean and not messy,” freshman Kenneth Bond said.
Another student gave a positive overview on the tradition of spring cleaning as well.
“I think spring cleaning is a good idea cause if you clean up you are going to feel better about yourself and how the space you have cleaned isn’t messy anymore,” freshman Gavin Brandt said.
No matter how you feel about spring cleaning, it’s more than just a way to tidy up your home. It’s a chance to refresh your space and clear your mind. By organizing, deep cleaning, and donating items you no longer use, you can turn your home into a cleaner, more positive environment for you and your family.
