As 2024 comes to an end, many people all over the world have new goals that they want to meet and habits they want to break in the new year. Students at Rancho Cucamonga High School are also finding ways to become better with the new year right around the corner.
The new year begins on Wednesday, Jan. 1, so it is helpful to start the new year off with plenty of goals.
The tradition behind New Year’s resolutions started around 4,000 years ago with the Babylonians pledging to become better and accomplish goals for the upcoming year.
Students at RCHS were asked about their New Year resolutions and what they thought of it.
“My New Year’s resolution is to get better at playing guitar, get my car, and finish moving into my house,” junior Johnathan Aubert said.
While some students might aspire to improve a skill or purchase a large item, other students have goals that focus around health. Junior Jeremiah Butler’s New Year’s resolutions focus more on health.
“My New Year’s resolution is to eat better, exercise more, and have less screen time,” Butler said.
Many students, especially those who are close to graduating are putting more focus on grades and what colleges they want to attend. Many of these students are setting New Year’s resolutions around college.
“My resolutions for this year is to find what college I am going to, get my permit, and apply for a job. I like New Years and I also think that resolutions are good as long as you can achieve them,” junior Matix Valenzuela said.
Getting a permit and finding a college to attend is a goal juniors and seniors plan to strive toward this upcoming year. Planning ahead on big decisions like this is a great goal for a New Year’s resolution.
Many students at RCHS have goals ranging from eating healthier, getting more exercise, or getting that car they’ve been saving up for. No matter the goal, anything is achievable when you put your mind to it.
