Rancho Cucamonga High School’s gym roared with excitement and anticipation during this year’s Rio-themed homecoming rally. The rally was filled with bright colors and paintings inspired by the movie “Rio.”
The rally kicked off with the National Anthem sung by junior Khloe Whales, followed by a spirited performance by the band. Shortly after that, RCHS students caught a glimpse of two birds, Jewel and Blu, who were played by RCHS Principal, Mr. Azande Aikens and Ms. Kelsi Trautwein.
The 2024 homecoming rally also featured multiple dance performances performed by the 2024 homecoming princesses and their committees.
Princess Zuri Brooks said, “It felt very amazing to be on hoco court. At first, I was like no way, then I was like wow people actually think I’m cool. It was a great experience working on everything with everyone.”
Being on court comes with many homecoming experiences and memories. One tradition at RCHS is that the princesses dance at the rally and are includes in the homecoming parade at half-time.
“My favorite part of hoco was being able to dress up and get on the back of the Corvette. My last hoco was amazing as well but I most definitely made more memories this year,” Brooks said.
Late in the rally, Mr. Aaron Bishop, who was dressed as Miko the bird, led the traditional spirit clap to see what class was most excited to be at the rally.
“The rallies are fun because I get to take some time off of school work and get to have fun and hang out with my friends. It’s also cool watching cheer and dance perform,” freshman Mckenzie Ades said.
With this year’s bright decor and fun theme, many students enjoyed attending the rally and watching the performances.
“The rally was the best one yet. I loved the visuals and the overall theme,” senior Nicolete Bell said.
The rally continued with the final three dances from the homecoming princess. Then, varsity dance performed.
Junior Jolie Jensen said, “I thought [the varsity dance performance] was fun to watch. It was really colorful and it brought so much energy to the rally.”
