The 2024-2025 girls water polo season has officially started. On Monday, Nov. 18, they played their first game of the season against Arcadia High School, defeating them 18-8. Both the varsity and JV teams secured a win for the first game of the season.
In the first quarter of the game, junior Audrey Lee scored the first goal of the game. The score by the end of the first quarter was 4-1. In the second quarter, the girls worked hard and the score was then 11-5. In the second half of the game, the Cougars advanced the game to a lead of 14-7 by the end of the third quarter.
For the upcoming season, many of the players said they are very excited to begin playing. Last season, the girls water polo finished the season with an overall record of 21-10, and they finished first in the Baseline League. The team also made it to semi-finals in CIF.
This season, the girls said they are hoping to make it to CIF and win. Lee, an attacker on varsity, said that her goals for the upcoming season are to work harder.
“Work on my shooting to make it harder and more accurate and win as many sprints as possible,” said Lee. This is Lee’s third year on varsity after making varsity her freshman year.
The girls water polo team put in some hard work during their off season to make sure they could play their best. Sophomore Lili Alofaituli said that her goal for the season is to have better team chemistry.
“Try to have better team chemistry and to get along better, and to put more of our friendship and bond to make sure you see that during the game,” said Alofaituli.
The girls varsity and JV teams both won their second games of the season with a score of 9-7 for varsity and 15-2 for JV.
