As the 2024-2025 winter basketball season approaches, Rancho Cucamonga High School looks forward to a promising season with new and returning players. The team will be coached by returning head coach Mr. Bill Burke, who has coached the varsity basketball team for over 20 years at RCHS. Following the head coach will be his very knowledgeable team of assistant coaches: Justin Long, Shaffven Knight, Sharif Jabsheh, Clarence Nelson, and Justin Hamilton.
For many on the roster, this is their last high school basketball season. The seniors on the team this year are Aaron Glass, Tyler Pitts, Aiden Jensen, Diego Murguia, Jackson Fuentes, Mckel Shedrick, Marko Plascencia, and Chu Chu Osuji. This group of seniors said they are looking for a deep playoff run this year. The rest of the team consists of junior Izaiah Fiallos, junior Steven Sadek, sophomore Jayden Gatewood, sophomore Jackson Edwards, sophomore Noah Fuentes, and sophomore Kavan Bowden.
The team has a strong core with Glass, who is a top point guard in Southern California as well as an all-CIF selection, according to Sports Illustrated. The whole team is full of talent and untapped potential which will be expressed in the coming years of their high school careers and beyond.
As the season continues, Glass will a big decision to make as he has currently narrowed down his prospects to his final 3 schools: Stanford University, Texas A&M, and Wyoming University. Throughout Glass’ high school career, he has averaged at least 20 points per game, being a scoring machine for the Cougars. He said intends to do the same this season as this is his final season.
On Wednesday, Nov. 20, 2024, the three Rancho Cucamonga basketball teams all dominated Arlington High School by at least 20 points. Varsity finished with a final score of 84-60, being led by Glass with an explosive 31-point game, Shedrick scoring 18 points, Fiallos with 14 points, and Pitts with 10 points. The whole team contributed to the team’s first win this season both on and off the court.
“I’m expecting for all my teammates to play hard and for us to win,” Edwards said.
