As fall approaches, Rancho Cucamonga High School students are starting to get excited for the many festivities that come with the season. For many students one of the activities essential to getting into the spirit of fall includes creating a fall music playlist. These students agree that their music tastes change with the seasons. Students took a survey on their favorite artists, genres, and songs to listen to during fall.
Senior Qristeena Eason is one of the many students who has made it a habit to create a playlist for every new season that arrives.
“I do make fall playlists, and I usually make seasonal playlists. It sets the tone for each season,” Eason said.
In a recent poll, more than 70 students shared their opinions on music playlists. About 45% of students agreed that the 90s were their top music decade during the fall. However, the winning decade was 2020-current music with a vote of 46%. Most of the vote for the genre went to Indie with about a 63% vote.
“My favorite genre to listen to during fall is definitely rock,” Eason said.
Many students shared a love for some of the same artists and agree that these artists are essential for a fall playlist: Mazzy Star, Jeff Buckley, The Smiths, The Beatles, and the Cranberries. These are 90s rock and alternative bands and artists to which RCHS students seemed the most drawn to, according to the survey results. Popular artists such as Lana Del Rey and Taylor Swift were also a student favorites.
“Artists that remind me of fall are Steve Lacy, Mazzy Star, and Cocteau Twins,” Eason said.
Many RCHS students also said that some specific songs from these artists just “feel like fall.”
“I do have a fall playlist that I made. I would say The Beatles, Elvis, and Billy Joel feel like fall. My favorite genre to listen to in fall is pop or rock,” said sophomore Regan Wright.
Multiple survey responses said that songs like “Fade Into You” by Mazzy Star, “Dark Red” by Steve Lacy, “1979” by The Smashing Pumpkin, and “Dreams” by Fleetwood Mac all radiated cozy and warm fall vibes.
“The song that feels the most like fall to me is ‘Possibility’ by Lykke Li,” Eason said.
