Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) is changing its plans for phase five after many box office disappointments, problems, delays within the studio, and fan criticism.
The first sign of change was when Marvel announced that Robert Downey Jr., the former Iron Man actor, would return to the MCU to portray the famous villainous character Dr. Doom.
At the 2024 San Diego Comic-Con convention, Downey Jr. hid his face in a Dr. Doom mask before dramatically revealing his face to a large group of fans. He later took to social media and posted a picture of himself with the mask and captioned it, “Different mask, same task.”
Many fans thought that Kang the Conqueror would be the next big bad villain of the MCU, but Marvel decided to scrap the Kang character and go in a different direction, after the actor portraying Kang, Johnathan Majors, was convicted of assault back in December 2023.
Majors has spoken about this with Screenrant.com stating, “Yeah, heartbroken. Of course. I love Kang. Doctor Doom is wicked, though.”
According to Time Magazine, It is reported that the Russo brothers, who directed “Captain America: The Winter Soldier” (April 2014), “Captain America: Civil War” (April 2016), “Avengers: Infinity War” (April 2018), and “Avengers: Endgame” (April 2019) are set to return to direct the next two Avengers movies.
Some of those movies that are set to release this year as part of the newly revamped MCU include, “Captain America: Brave New World,” “Thunderbolts,” “The Fantastic Four: First Steps,” “Blade,” “Avengers: Doomsday,” and “Avengers: Secret Wars,” which are all set to release in 2024-2025.
Of course, there are more movies to expect from Marvel down the line such as a sequel to Shang-Chi and Spider-Man 4, but there are no release dates at the moment.
