On Friday, Sept. 20 Rancho Cucamonga High School’s teachers and administrators went head to head in an intense dodgeball game. This event was held in the quad during both first and second lunch.
The staff dodgeball game is an annual and fun tradition that occurs at the beginning of every school year. Teachers, students, and staff all look forward to this event each year.
“My favorite part of staff dodgeball was getting to watch the teachers participate in something outside of their job, if that makes sense,” junior Brooklyn Helper said.
This event offers both students and teachers a fun way to end the school’s annual College and Career Week.
“Well the whole dodgeball game was an idea like in 2002 and we pitched it to Admin and they said try it, and it took off. So many of the staff members here were original Dodgeball players. It was the thing to do, that is one thing about this school: the staff will participate in tons of activities. It’s fun,” said history teacher Mr. Aaron Bishop.
Bishop said he has been competing in this annual competition for 21 years, and he hopes this tradition will continue. Other teachers such as Mr. Rangi Smart, Mr. Matt Garner, and Ms. Elyse Martineau also competed on Friday.
“It is a great event on the campus. Sad thing is sometimes these stellar athletes get banged up, the list of dodgeball injuries on campus is a long one. It has turned into a Rancho Tradition and is great to end the College week with this kinda celebration,” said Bishop. “I just hope that the future Rancho staff members will continue to Chuck and Dodge, duck, dip, dive, and dodge. Dodgeball now Dodgeball forever. We would love to make it a Staff sport and compete against other schools.”
