On Monday, Sept. 16, 2024, the Rancho Cucamonga High School Cougars took on the Los Osos Grizzlies at Chino Hills High School in the Cougars’ first official Baseline League game of the season. The Cougars beat the Grizzlies with a final score of 53-6.
Within the first two drives of the game from the Grizzlies, junior defensive back Marley Glass intercepted the ball on both drives to bring out the ball in Cougar possession.
“The key to success against Los Osos was just to keep our composure and play like we’ve been practicing,” RCHS flag football head coach Ms. Jackie Bayona said.
The RCHS flag football team was able to score on both sides of the field with offensive and defensive players like Jada Lavender getting inside the end zone five times during the game, and Indigo Pitts getting an interception and taking it to the end zone for another touchdown against the Los Osos Grizzlies.
Bayona shared her thoughts on what separates the RCHS flag football team from other teams.
“What sets us apart from teams we’ve played so far is our offense,” Bayona said. “We have two strong QBs in Joanna Kolta and Lizzy Brown -both have different skill sets and both can be running QBs.”
With the Cougars impressive offensive display, they also dominated on defense as well, limiting the Grizzlies to only six points the whole game.
Glass shared her thoughts on what she wanted to improve on for the season.
“I want to improve my attitude, staying in the play, and watching the ball in all areas,” Glass said.
The Cougars currently have a 10-4 record including all games. In the Baseline League, they have a 1-1 record. Their next football game is on Monday, Sept. 23, 2024, at Los Osos High School against St. Lucy’s Prior High School.
