In the RCHS pool, the Rancho Cucamonga Cougars varsity boys water polo team faced off against the Claremont High School Wolfpack. Dominating the game, the Cougars defeated the Wolfpack 24-3.
The season has barely begun, and the varsity boys water polo team has already won their fifth consecutive game. In the first quarter of the match against the Wolfpack, the Cougars couldn’t be stopped and were up 8-0. Continuing into the next quarter, they persisted with seven more goals and no scoring from Claremont, bringing the score to 15-0.
During the second half of the game, Claremont High School scored one goal in the third quarter. Then in the middle of the fourth quarter, Claremont managed to score two more goals. Towards the end of the game, the Cougars scored another nine goals, winning the match 24-3.
Having heavily prepared for this season, the Cougars are ready to face whatever comes their way.
Boys water polo head coach Gavin Nolan said the team is hoping for a league championship this year.
“The main objective is the boys want to win league; we haven’t won since 1995-1996 and then push on to have a good CIF run after that, so we trained all summer and have been pushing a lot of our players with club practices as well, and they are putting in the work,” Nolan said. “So, we have a lot of training going on conditioning-wise, skill-wise, and tactical-wise. I think the team can really accomplish that this year”.
According to the team, they also believe they are ready to face these challenges.
Senior Paxton Powers has his own goals for the season as well.
“My personal goals are for our team to win league and for me personally to break the scoring record,” Powers said.
Following up with his goals for the team, Nathan Andrews said, “My goals for the team specifically are to win first-team all-league, go far in CIF and me specifically is to win first-team all-league.”
