The annual Mexican celebration, Día de Muertos (Day of the Dead), is a time when families gather to honor and remember deceased loved ones. It is believed that the souls of the dead return to visit the living families.
This celebration takes place on October 31st, November first, and November second.
This holiday goes back to the Aztecs, the ancient people of northern Mexico, who honored their dead with fiestas and rituals during the harvest season, believing that death was the beginning of the cycle of life. The Cat’s Eye staff reporters Elika Seifi and Joanna Wu asked teachers and students at Rancho Cucamonga High School about their plans for the Day of the Dead and what it means to them.
