On Oct. 6, 2023, at 6 a.m, Drake released his much-anticipated album “For All the Dogs.” Announced in June, the album has been a hot topic of discussion among rap enthusiasts, and with Drake’s track record with albums, his last three debuting at the number one spot, “For All the Dogs,” was essentially assured to be a chart topper, and top charts it did.
With the album debuting at number one on the Billboard top 200 albums, and three of the album’s songs being the top three songs on the Billboard Hot 100. But, for all the album’s commercial success, is it liked among the students of Rancho Cucamonga High School?
“Some songs were kind of slow-ish,” sophomore Nathaniel Hernandez said when asked about his opinion on the album. “I’d give it like a seven out of ten.”
But, even with the album’s undeniable commercial success, quite a few RCHS students don’t look too favorably upon it.
“No, it doesn’t,” freshman Jozef Garcia said when asked if he believed the album deserved it’s placement at the top of the Billboard Top 200. He continued to passionately explain why. Stating that while the features were exceptional, Drake’s solo performances left a lot to be desired.
“Some songs could have been better without Drake,” Hernandez said elaborating on his main criticism of the album.
With quite a few of the most popular songs on the album being features, these sentiments are understandable. However, according to a ranking posted by Billboard, the top three songs on the albums were solos by Drake.
Regardless of the album’s various critics, a few RCHS students look favorably upon the album.
“I love it; I think it’s pretty good,” freshman Lila Patel said when asked for her opinion on the album. “I love how Frank Ocean was a little bit on it.”
Despite its various critics and detractors, the album is an undeniable success, with it maintaining its placement within the top 10 of the Billboard top 200 albums almost four weeks after its release and many of its songs staying within the top 20 on the Billboard Hot 100.
