Student Achievement at Rancho Cucamonga High School hosted College and Career Week, the week of October 2-6. The theme was “Game of Life” and Student Achievement had a variety of activities for students to engage in, to prepare them for college and get them excited for college or any other careers.
“The main purpose of college and career week is to give awareness about what to do after college, and so students know that they have a variety of options and opportunities,” Student Achievement advisor Ms. Tiffini Ewing said. “Basically to contact the college I just emailed all the colleges I could think of and more and I used whoever responded.”
During College and Career Week, many colleges from around the country gathered in the quad to distribute information and promote their schools. Students got to walk around the quad and learn about more options for their futures. Every day a variety of colleges, universities, trade schools, and job opportunities such as Chaffey College, John Hopkins, American University of Medical Technology, UCLA, and even Jersey Mikes participated in the event. Multiple medical programs that attended included ICU Nurse, American University of Medical Technology, and Emergency Medicine Physician. Military branches including the Marines, Army, Air Force, and the Claremont Mckenna Army ROTC were at the event as well.
“I really liked college and career week, I thought the activities were pretty cool,” freshman Avleen Narain said. “I really liked how it had a lot of variety and like options, its really comforting to know that I have more options besides college.”
RCHS also planned a spirit week for College and Career Week, giving students the opportunity to dress up and participate in sharing where they want to go in life. On Monday, it was “Pajama Day” and Tuesday was “Dress as a Teacher Day.” On Wednesday, it was “Family Day” and upperclassmen dressed as grandparents while underclassmen dressed as babies. On Thursday students could dress up as what career they wanted to pursue or wear any college merchandise they had. To finish off the week, students wore pink attire for the Pink Out game on Friday to recognize October as Breast Cancer Awareness Month.
