The stage is set for “Little Shop of Horrors”
In preparation for the school’s first musical of the year, “Little Shop of Horrors,” the drama department received the set on Monday, Feb. 27. The set was delivered by Encore Theatrical LA, a company that specialized in scenic design and rentals for stage productions.
“This is a very professional-looking set, and I want it to set a standard for the level of shows that we do at Rancho Cucamonga High School,” Loudermilk said. “I just wanted the set to reflect the hard work that all of the students put into it.”
According to Mr. James Loudermilk, the RCHS drama teacher, the set cost about $7,000 and included about 40 pieces in total. Some of the main pieces of the Little Shop of Horror set include the florist shop, Mushnik Florist, and the side doors that the cast mainly enters and exits through.
Some of the smaller details of the set include the florist shop counter, which includes a special area for the puppeteer to maneuver the Audrey II.
“It’s really exciting to be the puppeteer,” senior Liam Flenniken said. “This has been a culmination of many weeks of hard work from not just myself but the rest of the cast and crew and I think with the plant and perfecting its movements will help melt together really well and create a really fun and visually appealing show.”
To assemble the stage, about 20 different students put the pieces together to complete the full set. It took a full school day with extra time after school.
Little Shop of Horrors debuts tonight on Thursday, March 9 at 7 p.m. in the RCHS Auditorium. There will be shows on Thursday – Saturday at 7 p.m., and there also is a matinee performance on Saturday, March 11 at 2 p.m. Tickets are available for purchase on the RCHS drama website.
